LOCAL Suspect in KMart Rape Caught

Waterford police say they’ve got their man in connection with a rape investigation. A woman was assaulted in broad daylight in a Kmart parking lot Tuesday.

The incident happened in the parking lot of a Kmart store on Dixie Highway Tuesday afternoon.
Police say a 32-year-old woman had just finished shopping when she got in her van. A man was allegedly hiding in the back seat. He grabbed the woman and sexually assaulted her.
Police say the man walked away after the attack, and shoppers called police after hearing the victim scream.

Tracking dogs were brought out as police surrounded the parking lot.

The 37-year-old suspect from Independence Township was taken into custody at his home without incident. It is not known what charges the suspect could face.
