Secret Service Questions Kid Over School Project

Discussion Thread Article

ALTERNET.org reports that the Secret Service investigated an incident involving a North Carolina student's senior civics and economics class project. The teacher had assigned the class to do a photo presentation on one of the rights prescribed in the Bill or Rights. The unnamed student took a photograph of President Bush and placed a red thumb tack through his head with a "thumbs down" sign next to it. A Wal Mart photo lab employee saw the pictures while being developed and call the local authorities who handed the case over to the US Secret Service, who visited the school, confiscated the student's poster, and questioned both the teacher and the student.
When the teacher told the SS that it was only a Bill of Rights project, the agents told her that the poster would be interpreted by the US Attorney's office and a determination would be made on whether to indict the student.

The student was not indicted and the SS did not pursue the case further.

DISCUSSION THREAD: Do you think that photo lab employees should be able to look at developed photographs without the consumer's consent.
