"Whites Only" at a Barber Shop in Lafayette

Herbert Ledger, owner of barber shop in Lafayette, Louisiana, posted a sign outside his barber shop that read "Whites Only." Many people called a local news station to report it. Channel 3 investigated and interviewed Mr. Ledger who said, "The difference is the technique that you use and they have special technique for cutting black people's hair. Just like there's a special technique for cutting white people's hair. I don't have the training, I don't have the experience, I don't have the knowledge and the technique used in cutting black people's hair."

Mr. Ledger said that the sign was not intended to offend anyone, but only to demonstrate that he didn't know how to cut black people's hair.
